New school bank teaches students about saving

The Bank of Tioga opened its newest branch last week -- inside Divide County Elementary School.

Now, every other Wednesday, students in kindergarten through grade six have an opportunity to make deposits and withdrawals from their personal  savings account at school.

Joy Sparks, financial literacy coordinator at Bank of Tioga, said the program’s goal is to teach students about how banks operate and how savings accounts work.

Divide County Elementary Principal Tanja Brown said opening the bank is an extension of the learning process.
