A woman who goes by the informal title of the “school lady” has now documented five more pioneer-era schools in Divide County.
Kathy Wilner of Bowdon earlier this year presented Divide County with a notebook containing documentation of architectural characteristics of 17 one-room schoolhouses in Divide County, but she knew there were some she was missing.
After putting out a request last spring for anyone who may have schools on private land or out-of-the-way places, she decided to make another trip to the area last month.
She and a helper documented the Elkhorn Township School #4, Alkabo School, Lee School #1, Lee School #2 -- both in Alexandria Township -- and the Plumer Township School.
