The sound of wooden spoons hitting together filled the air at the Tioga Central Elementary gym Thursday, making music as sixth-graders rehearsed for a Friday evening performance.
The Cultural Kaleidoscope program is led by Sergei Sharpoval, who came to the United States from Russia in 1991.
Sergei decided to start this program because knowledge of Russian culture was very limited to the rest of the world.
“In 1991, when the Soviet Union fell apart, the people don’t really know what is going on and they wanted to know but there not was any books or information.” he says, in a thick accent.
