Sheriff reducing K-9 unit

Divide County Sheriff Lauren Throntveit said, in a perfect world, he’d like to keep both of Divide County’s drug dogs, but this isn’t a perfect world.

“There’s a lot of expense associated with them,” he said.

Especially since Deputy Jason Pohlkamp resigned to take a position in Traill County. Pohlkamp was one of two K-9 handlers in the department. Sgt. Coby Hubble is the other. His K-9 partner is Smokey.

Throntveit said since demand for K-9 services has decreased since the slowdown of oil-related activity, it makes good financial sense to give up Mikko, a 4-year-old German Shepherd.
