Oil booms ensured policing was always a challenge

Jim Lokken (Crosby High School Class of 1969) didn’t travel far from his hometown geographically, but his career in law enforcement took him to the pinnacle of his department.

Lokken, 66, retires this week as Williston’s Chief of Police, a role his career trajectory suggests was a pretty good bet from the start.

Lokken will be a reluctant attendant tomorrow, Thursday, April 20, at an open house at Williston’s Old Armory, where his retirement from a 46-year career in law enforcement will be celebrated.

“I didn’t want anything like that,” Lokken said good-naturedly, but he didn’t figure friends and colleagues would give in to his wishes.
