Geothermal work wrapping up at school

Drilling of geothermal wells at Divide County High School is just about complete, Superintendent Sherlock Hirning said at the school board’s regular monthly meeting Tuesday last week.

“The wells will be done by the end of this week,” Hirning said. “Then they start trenching them and hooking everything in.”

The well field for the new heating system is behind the building, in front of the football stadium. Hirning said the drilling crews will have vacated the area before the first home football game on Aug. 18.

Hirning said he believes the construction project, which also includes an expansion of both buildings, is “pretty well on track” with regard to the schedule, even if it hasn’t been entirely smooth.
