Jeff Proberts knows when to pitch in, and when to get out of the way.
“Right now I’m waiting for him to tell me what to do,” Proberts said, gesturing to Ernst Schoellhammer of Ambrose. Schoellhammer is a professional carpenter who donated his time and expertise last weekend to help Proberts build access ramps and decks on his neighbors’ house in northwest Crosby.
“I had to do something,” Proberts said, after seeing his neighbors struggle last winter to get into their home.
Proberts’ neighbors, Bernie and Bev Dokken, both have mobility issues. The steps into their home were clearly getting to be too much. Making matters more pressing, Bev just had major knee surgery.
