Classmates still close 80 years after their 1938 graduation

How important is a high school diploma? Important enough, to some, to hang onto for 80 years. How likely is it that three members of a class graduated 80 years ago could reside in the same nursing home?

Just ask Ken Granrud and classmates Ken and Edie (Christianson) Engberg, who will celebrate the 80th anniversary of their high school graduation at an open house planned Wednesday for 3 p.m. in the center’s dining room.

Neither the graduates themselves, nor members of their families, are sure how many other classmates survive, but the list of classmates’ names, printed inside of their diplomas, reads like a Who’s Who of pioneer families.

One thing the Engberg’s daughter, Peggy Gilbertson, is sure of, “This class got together a lot,” through the years.
